The Embodied Music Lab Philosophy

We generate sound, communicate, and make meaning in the lives of others with our bodies. At the Embodied Music Lab, we explore all the perceptible, tangible, visible, and measurable phenomena that lead to that musical expression. We are dedicated to the idea that we are all students, that our craft is a practice not an arrival point, and that we each have an earned perspective that deserves to be empowered, explored, and developed through shared knowledge and experience.

This is what we believe

Practice curiosity

First and foremost, our work is a joyful unfolding of the desire to know how sound, the voice, and music work. We want to excite you to see all that is possible. We want to light your curiosity so that it burns long after you leave us.

It matters how you think

We believe that the way you think shapes everything. It determines the way you meet new information. It defines what you imagine is possible. We seek to not just fill you with information or practices, but to change you and the way you experience the world.

Build up your knowledge without tearing others down

We challenge ideas. We challenge models. We have been able to do incredible things without needing to attack people. Here you will find a culture that does not thrive when putting others down. We require no enemies and encourage no animosity.

Create knowledge and curate information with transparency

We rest on the shoulders of others even as we push the field forward. You will always know where our ideas come from. You will be encouraged to trace back the breadcrumbs we leave behind as we go.
